I got nothing.: Shame →
-rosasparks-:
I pay full, no insurance prices for my anti-depressants. I pay full-price for doctors visits for mini. We had COBRA insurance but it was over $1000 a month so I had to let it go, DERP. When bubba got Strep throat, he made himself drink tea and honey and suffer through without going to the doctor because, DEERRRRP.
This isn’t abnormal, far from it. And the scariest part is that...

Calm the @!*% down
So, I’m one of those people who is always ready to storm the gates when it comes to violence or discrimination no matter who it’s happening to really. And most of all, I deplore things that harm children. And I have absolute respect and appreciation for people like Karen Zacharias, who is a strong advocate for children.
And, the absurdly long list of things I have absolute disdain for...

4 Things Jillian Michaels doesn't want you to know
1. It matters more that you do than what you do.
Clean your house, chase your kids, mow the lawn, chop some wood, go for a walk, dance in your underwear (with the curtains drawn please). It doesn’t matter what you do. All movement burns calories.
2. It matters more that you eat less than what you eat.
You can lose weight eating twinkies. If you eat fewer calories than you burn. You might...

How do we fight our fears?
One last thought before I go to bed.
I’ve had a couple of conversations this week about false perceptions of racism. Most were with blacks but the one tonight was with a group of white friends.
And it broke my heart because I understood exactly what was happening from both sides. Two chapters of the same organization, one predominantly white, the other 100% black don’t do anything...

Loving v. Virginia →
This is the article that was on NPR this morning about Loving v. Virginia, the supreme court case that legalized inter-racial marriage.
The court decided that based on the 14th amendment, anti-miscegenation laws were unconstitutional. In the unanimous decision (seriously, when does that happen), the court said that “Marriage is one of the ‘basic civil rights of man,’ fundamental...

Been saying this for years →
Seriously T’Challa needs a movie. But the reason he doesn’t is because most of you probably don’t even know who that is.
Why Daddy's Girls are Awesome →
For the record, this was totally my relationship with my dad. Not the killing gangsters part. The other part. The teaching and the challenging.
Nothing was ever easy with him. And there were days when I couldn’t stand being in the same room with him. But I know I’m a stronger person because of him.

Old folks will be mad at me for this one...
I don’t want to disparage the freedom riders. But I think I have to a little bit to make my point. So bear with me.
The Freedom Riders, SNCC, CORE and the other student movements of the 1950s and 1960s that helped fight the fight for civil rights had a fairly simple task. The primary purpose of the civil rights movement at that time was to force the United States government to enforce...

Our Attorney General has a clue →
Finally, we’ve got an attorney general who gets that the war on drugs is absurd.
It costs something like $26K per inmate per year and there’s no proven societal benefit to locking up drug users. The statistics for drug use aren’t going down. Drug related crimes aren’t going down.
So the attorney general is pushing for a plan to retroactively apply the Fair Sentencing...
